CWS Player Development Pathway
Mission Statement: To build a passion for the game through player development and accountability.
Ages 5-7: Junior Academy: Intro to the game. Establish a fun environment that kids enjoy while learning the basics of the game.
Ages 8-10: Development league: where technical skills are the focus of self-development. These skills start to establish the passion for the game through comfort on the ball and a more aggressive mindset.
Ages 11-12: This is where player development starts to meet up with team tactics and principles of play. The understanding that everyone is important to the process and where winning and losing start to be a bigger factor in the journey the competitive platforms.
Ages 13 and up: This is where a commitment to competing at the highest level as an individual and team come in. We look to challenge our players and teams by playing in leagues and tournaments that push our players to be the best they can at the highest levels of play.
Player Accountability:
Players will take individual accountability for their own individual success. This starts with showing up to all training’s sessions on time, focused with all their gear, ready to work hard and be coachable. They also have access to CWS library of individual skill drills they can do on their own.
Formations of play:
7v7 We play a 2-3-1 with our focus on understanding the importance of triangles and midfielders transitioning up and down the field. We encourage individual play in the right spaces while introducing position accountability.
9v9 We play a 3-2-3 starting to understand wide channels of play and playing out of the back. We start to introduce target play and how to break lines in the attack. Defensively we are understanding Pressure, support, and balance and how to transition and squeeze the field to win the ball back.
11v11 We play a 4-2-3-1. We understand how to keep a balanced attack and what our visual cues are to dictate play. We now put more focus on where to press and visual cues that we all play off. Our 1v1 defending has to be outstanding.
Teaching Philosophy:
By teaching age appropriate drills and asking players questions to get them to understand the why of what they are being asked to do. The smarter we can make the player the easier it becomes to advance their learning curve. By also using video to self-reflect it allows for great growth and better awareness.
